MUAY THAI
November 27
A massive year of Muay Thai for the Ironfist community went out with a bang for our final show for 2021 on Saturday night at Coastal Warfare.
Cassie ‘Salty’ Barns certainly finished the year off in style, coming away from her 10th fight undefeated for 10 wins.
Cassie fought her toughest fight yet against Tandia Singleton from Black Dog Muay Thai in Kuranda. Tandia was a force to be reckoned with, but unsurprisingly from our own ‘Salty’, Cassie was not relinquishing the belt without a hell of a fight.
Not only did Cassie walk away with her hand raised, but she is now tasked with finding enough space in her pool room for all three of her belts. We could not be prouder of your achievements, Cassie. Well done!
BJJ
November 20
Isaac ‘The Pool Boy’ Small, our first home-grown Ironfist MMA fighter, stepped into the cage at Eternal 63 at the Southport Sharks.
‘The Pool Boy’ certainly had his eye in on Saturday, ending the fight in the first round via a cracking shot which definitely got Dan’s tick of approval – as well as the crowd’s! Big hands all the way, Isaac.
Hopefully this will be the first of many fights for Isaac, who represented Ironfist in the MMA circuit tremendously.
November 28
We had two of our grapplers compete on Sunday at the Gold Coast BJJ Championships: Jasmine Lee and Liam Dobson.
Jas won silver in Gi and bronze in no-Gi, pulling off three submissions to secure her place. Congratulations Jas, superb effort!
Liam came away with silver in no-Gi after multiple bouts, even sending one of his opponents for a micro-nap. Great work Liam!
BJJ is still a relatively new addition to The Ironfist Gym, but we could not have asked for a better group of trailblazers in our numerous Jiu Jitsu competitions this year.
Boxing
Our boxers have been working diligently behind the scenes, putting in quality rounds with our talented instructors to prime themselves for a big 2022. Watch this space…
At the start of this month we changed our 7am Boxing & Functional Fitness Class on Saturdays to a FREE Community Class. We have welcomed a few members of the local community into our ranks, and look forward to having even more join us in the new year.
Yoga
This month we welcomed Cyndy to our team of trainers, who has introduced yoga to The Ironfist Gym. Everyone has loved her Sunday afternoon Stretch Class. The final session of 2021 took place last Sunday, and we were treated to a taste of Qigong and finished with a ‘mini Sound Bath’.
Yoga stretch will be recommencing in January 2022.
A massive thank you to everyone who participated in our IronFIT 30 day challenge which started on November 1st. Instead of having two winners for each type of membership we offer, we rewarded four members as we were so impressed with their commitment to training over the last month!
Congratulations Harley Taylor and Merinus Panadura Arachchuge our Unlimited Membership winners and Aaron Lim and Shania Christensen our 3 Visit Per Week Membership winners. A great effort and we are sure they will enjoy one month free on their membership.
The month ahead…
