We understand that many of our MMA students come from different martial art backgrounds, or have no previous experience at all. Our experienced MMA coaches will help you learn the fundamentals through to incorporating your own style of martial arts into the unique ruleset of MMA.
Students wishing to improve their skills for MMA further will attend our Boxing, Muay Thai and grappling classes, and then can apply these disciplines in our MMA context. Whether you have never put on a pair of gloves, or are a professional fighter looking to hone your skills, Ironfist’s Mixed Martial Arts classes will equip you for the combat sport of MMA.

Dan Bell, the owner of The Ironfist Gym, is looking forward to supporting our MMA coaches with his extensive experience in Muay Thai. Over the last 33 years, Dan has coached multiple World Muay Thai Champions and many State and National title holders. Dan is looking forward to seeing the next generation of Ironfist Champions competing in MMA.
Many of you will meet Mal Vanderaar who works the front desk at Ironfist. Beginning his martial arts journey as a junior in Judo, Mal has competed and trained in multiple combat sports including Wrestling, Boxing, MMA and he has also achieved his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. With over 15 years of experience coaching & cornering Fighters both in Australia and internationally including UFC, Invicta FC, XFC and Eternal, Mal brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the gym and we are very fortunate to have him.
Rounding out the trio is our newest Coach to Ironfist Simon Clough. Simon has an extensive background in many different traditional martial arts and began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA 19 years ago, and quickly transitioned into coaching in 2006. Seeking continued success in competition Simon moved to Japan to train with world-class athletes and improve his own practice and found a home at Cobra Kai Osaka under the mentorship of Dokonjonosuke Mishima. Simon has extensive coaching experience having cornered hundreds of athletes in competitions including UFC and Pancrase, resulting in many Title Belts collected along the way.
